Ministries

In November 2019, my husband, Paul, and I appeared on Doreen Virtue’s YouTube channel and shared our story of escaping the deception of the Word of Faith movement and leaving working for the false teacher, Joyce Meyer. That video went viral and our online ministry, We Would Rather Have Jesus, was born. Since then, the Lord has allowed us to help people all over the globe flee from false teaching and wake up from deception. The last several years have brought many amazing relationships into our lives and wonderful opportunities to share our story with others, such as numerous podcast interviews and our involvement with the American Gospel 3 docuseries project.

American gopsel 3, spirit and fire, Paul Massey, Emily Massey
American Gospel: Spirit & Fire: A significant theological movement has swept through the Church in recent decades. Millions of professing Christians worldwide believe God is restoring the lost offices of apostle and prophet to church government. They claim these restored apostles and prophets are needed to usher in a global end-times revival through new revelations and miraculous signs and wonders. This modern apostolic and prophetic paradigm has been called the “New Apostolic Reformation.” While there is debate over this label (NAR), the core claims of authority demand a response from all Christians. Has Christ truly sent these new apostles and prophets to His Church?

American Gospel: Spirit & Fire will compare and contrast the true person and work of the Holy Spirit with the manifestations and prophetic revelations attributed to Him by leaders in the modern apostolic and prophetic movement.

We have also written and compiled a four-hour seminar entitled: A Biblical Refutation of the Word of Faith Movement, which endeavors to shed light on the confusing practices, cultic origins, and doctrinal error of Word of Faith theology. Although we are so grateful for all the years of online ministry, a majority of the discipleship and ministry we now do together happens in our home and local church in Tampa, Florida.

If you would like to schedule an interview with us or discuss possible speaking engagements for your next event or conference, please send an email to wewouldratherhavejesus@gmail.com.

Snatched from the Flames is a ministry with Emily Massey of We Would Rather Have Jesus and Dawn Hill of Lovesick Scribe. Together, we have launched an online discipleship group specifically for Christian women who have been rescued from the deception of various types of movements/false doctrines- Word of Faith (WOF), New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), prosperity gospel, hyper-charismatic/some sects of Pentecostalism, moralistic therapeutic deism/purpose driven/seeker sensitive/mega church, progressive Christianity, Christian Science/New Thought, New Age, Eastern religions, Scientology, Social Justice gospel/CRT, etc. This group is a safe place to share our stories, as we rejoice in our freedom from false teaching and learn how to heal from the wounds that run deep from coming out of deception. We encourage one another on this often painful and confusing journey to remind each other that we do not have to walk it alone. We share our burdens with one another, fellowship, lift up each other and loved ones in prayer, and spur each other on in grace and truth. We also discuss how to rescue others from the grips of deception. Just as our eyes have been opened from the false teaching we once believed, we continue to pray that the Lord would open more eyes. May we see many more snatched from the flames!

Jude 23a – “save others, snatching them out of the fire…”

The Deceived are fully convinced they have the real truth. We are to be in full rescue operation mode with them – boldly confronting their errors and calling them to repentance. Like a coast guard helicopter flying into an offshore storm, we’re on the lookout for those drowning in the sea of apostasy, dropping the rope, and pulling them up. And if they reject the rope? We never stop praying, never stop trying, and never stop hoping they will be awakened to the danger they are in. Jude undoubtedly understands the sovereignty of God in saving His children and in keeping His children saved, but he’s equally aware of the vessels through which God so often saves. That is, the faithful witness of His people! (Acts 1:8; Romans 10:17). Snatching (harpazo) is the same word used in John 10:12 of the wolf snatching the sheep away from the hireling shepherd, and in John 10:28 of no one being able to snatch Jesus’ sheep from His hand. Jude has in mind a quick and alert state of readiness to rescue people. Notice there is no opt-out clause. No amendment. No free pass because of God’s sovereignty. No giving up because they reject you. A true Christian is patiently, yet relentlessly looking for opportunities to snatch brands from the burning.”Commentary by Costi Hinn
